Alpha to Logo Tutorial?

Can someone point me at a tutorial or an explanation of how to use the the Alpha to Logo Script-Fu scripts. I seem to be able to get them to work sometimes and other times they crop the picture and put up a pattern that is part of the effect with several other layers being produced, but no text effect or even text is left. I am not sure what I am doing that makes it work as expected when it does.
