problems opening a pdf in Gimp/Win32

I use the Gimp both in Linux and Win98. Yes unfortunately I am still using windows. In Linux a pdf opens fine. However when I try to open a pdf in Gimp/Win32 I get an error which says that "ps: can't interpret file". Am I doing something wrong? Is there a program missing? (I have Ghostscript and Gview)

If I need to provide more info please let me know of what nature it would be...

My whole reason for wanting to do this is to convert the individual pages into tifs, jpgs, or whatever. I have tried 'convert' for win32 as well and it returns errors...

Thanks,
