Gimp-user digest, Vol 1 #347 - 2 msgs

Dear Gimpies,

Yeah every time using the Gimp I am wondered what' the hell has inspired the Gimp programmers to put e.g. the Move command in the "tools" popup menu list, but there are a whole lot of other commands located in the wrong menu position. Maybe it shows up some day in the right menu position maybe the edit- menu.

the 1.3 gimp has inspired many discussions on what is a "tool" and what isn't. it seems like artists and coders have different ideas on this. there are many new tool buttons in the 1.3 version, but rumor has it that some of those will be removed from the toolbox before it is over.

i don't know that the book actually has you use these left out tools.

Thank you for responding. I haven't finished reading the book so I don't know if these tools are emphasized. I did look up Xinput airbrush in the index and didn't find much in the way of 'use explanation'

Re: Printing JPG images in Gimp: Does your printer working properly, are the configuration settings appropriate e.g. printing other kind of documents of your profile ? If yes, try to use another graphic- tool for printing or insert the jpg picture in a wordprocessing document in order to print it properly, if Gimp does not support your distinct printer driver. If no, you will have to install (and configure) your printer first.

Hi Fred!

Thanks for the advice. I tried it (along with some different printer drivers) but it didn't work. I'll keep looking. Thanks again!

Hi again!

I should also mention that I run BSD (using lpd) instead of CUPS. Thats probably important.

Hi all,

I'm trying to print a JPG image I've touched up from the GIMP and all I seem to get is control characters. I have an Epson 660 printer using the CUPS Foomatic + gimp-print and CUPS+GIMP-print v4.2.0 drivers on Mandrake 8.2 (just in case anyone cares ;-) ), but neither driver is helping.

I've also tried printing from other apps like Image Viewer and Electric Eyes and they print fine, but they don't give me the image sizing features that I need to fit the image to specific print sizes. Can anyone help? TIA!
