can't install GIMP

Dear GIMP users,

I would like to join your ranks, but cannot get the GIMP to install properly, apparently.

I am running Windows XP professional, download the automatic installer, run it without problems, but when time comes to open the GIMP, I get the message:

Pango-ERROR**:file shape.c:line 75 (pango_shape):assertion failed: (glyphs -> num_glyphs >0) aborting...

Can anyone help me?
