How do I invert black and white only (other colors remain intact)?

This discussion is connected to the gimp-user-list.gnome.org mailing list which is provided by the GIMP developers and not related to gimpusers.com.

This is a read-only list on gimpusers.com so this discussion thread is read-only, too.

How do I invert black and white only (other colors remain intact)?

I found a guide in this forum. It said:

1. Duplicate the layer 2. Invert the colors on the duplicated layer 3. Change layer mode on the first layer to "Colors"

The problem is there is no layer mode called "Colors". So, how do I fix this?

Thank you.

This is the problem when looking at old posts / tutorials ..etc.

The layer mode color belongs to Gimp 2.8

Gimp 2.10 has several more layer modes. Use the layer mode HSL Color.
