gimp-user-list Failed to open NEF files on Ubuntu (sed)
Hello, this may be relevant for the case " Failed to open NEF files on
Ubuntu (sed)": Ive encountered that darktable as a GIMP-plug-in does not
open my older nef-files (nef files taken with Coolpix 8700 and D60) It opens
nef-files taken with a D90. RawTherapee as a plug-in opens all my nef-files.
I am working with GIMP 2.10.14, darktable 2.6.2 and RawTherapee 5.6 on
latest Windows 10.
Regards
Klaus Goelker

Hello all, I have an operation system as Ubuntu and .NEF extension pics. I want to open raw files of Nikon D3500(.NEF) in GIMP. Despite of I've installed softwares like Darktable or rawTherapee or UFraw etc., I can not open raw files with GIMP. When I click open in GIMP and select raw file, the software gives two errors as seen in the screenshot. I am new on using Linux system and GIMP. Could anyone help me abot this issue? Thanks.

By the way, I receive this error when I want to open every NEf file not only 7808. Check the appropriate plugin is enabled in Edit -> Preferences -> Image Import&Export uFraw is not going to work, I use nufraw in a kubuntu 18.04 because it suits my workflow however I can demo Gimp 2.10 / RawTherapee (RT) in a ubuntu VM. I have a feeling that RT has to be version 5.5 or better You might need this PPA adding to get a suitable version sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dhor/myway For what its worth 2 and a half minute video opening a NEF file https://youtu.be/1yqEK777xAo -- rich404 (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ------------------------------ Message: 7 Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2019 20:14:37 +0100 From: Jernej Simon?i? Your file is corrupted - the contents don't look anything like an XCF file (whatever recovery process you used did not get the correct data off the disk). -- < Jernej Simon?i? ><><><><>< http:??eternallybored.org? > ------------------------------ Message: 9 Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2019 14:22:08 -0500 From: Patrick Shanahan To: gimp-user-list@gnome.org Subject: Re: [Gimp-user] Failed to open NEF files on Ubuntu Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii * sed [11-26-19 12:03]: > >* sed [11-26-19 10:38]: > >does the directory exist? /tmp/gimp/2.10/ > > First there were no any files named as gimp under tmp. I initiated gimp to access a NEF file earlier, 12:19 my time (-5 hrs) and it has not yet completed converting the file @ 14:18 but cpu usage continues to decline. that said, I seldom if ever use this approach, preferring darktable to work photos. I may utilize gimp after the fact but with a converted jpg or tiff/png. have no idea what "snap.gimp" is or where it comes from. I am canceling the process to load sub nef via dt. gud luk, -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode ------------------------------ Subject: Digest Footer
