urgent --- doubt

hi everyone,
i have a very small doubt. I'm trying to read a bmp file that is of grayscale nature. Since the pixel data is an index into the palette which contains 4 byte values, which of these 4 bytes corresponds to the actual pixel data?

Please help me ASAP
