New to GIMP - Is there a comprehensive manual for the program?

It is OK having a Romenian translation. But no Portuguese translation. Of course, Portuguese is less world wide known than Romenian or even Japanese...

Looks like this may be a known problem of old Filter Meister versions:

2.6.11 breaks PSPI w.r.t. filters made using Filter Meister (which a heck of a lot of filters were created using this program). Went back to 2.6.10 and all's well. Since PSPI is not part of the official GIMP package, I'm not 100% sure that they will even fix it. Not going to bugzilla (got burnt in the recent past). :)

I dont have a DVD rom in my computer, but i've found a few DEB files from the link you gave me and i'll try more of those and thank once again for helping me. I know i'm really a noob and i know it annoys people so ill try to keep my questions to a minimum. thank you for being so kind and patient. but i ill stick with deb files since i can handle them without screw ups.

Just use the GIMP DVD instead of the CD if you don't have Internet access. Then you can install GIMP using the Software Center and just insert the DVD when you're asked for it.

*.tar is the hardest

thank you but im actually really new to linux... i have no clue about any of this... and im so use to having people talk me through it in person... i tried to install wine and now im beating myself over the head with the key board... i read that the .DEB files were easiest to install... apparently the .Tar files, i love how smooth linux runs but i think that the linux users should try to come to together for commonality, you know, make a universal install file that installs quickly from a flash drive... i wish i was a programmer or a coder... this would be a lot easier*shakes redforces hand* i would do this in person if i could but its the best i can do and thank you again

@Kross you may ask a friend to download the Ubuntu DVD and use it then: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/dvd/current/ It contains more packages.

You can also find the official Ubuntu packages here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=gimp

If you use the ps filters plugin for photoshop type filters,
it doesn't work anymore in the 2.6.11 update.

Only the source code is available at the moment. Binary packages will be available soon for Windows and Mac, and we're going to notify about this when these packages are available!
