Gimp 2.10.22 runs slow on iMac 2019 Big Sur

I recently bought an iMac 2019 (pls see attachment for specs) and since the upgrade to Big Sur, GIMP runs slowly for everything. Exports, brushes, copy paste, all drags. While applying the Clone or Healing tools, the cursor is very slow to move, applications of the clone or heal take a couple of seconds to appear.

The 8GB RAM might a "usual suspect", however, RawTherapee, MS Teams, MS Office and LibreOffice all run at the usual speed. RawTherapee is amazingly fast and exports complex manipulations for 6000x4000 pixel images within seconds.

Do any of you have a similar experience with GIMP on Big Sur?

Please advise on other possible solutions before I spend a few hundred bucks on upgrading the RAM.

Thanks Shaan
