Crop tool selects in reverse

When I click-drag to select an area with the Crop tool, it now selects away from where I drag, instead of selecting the direction I drag. (I cropped a couple images and got the standard behavior, but with the third I get this crazy behavior even if I reboot or try another image.)

I couldn't google a fix. Various "inverse" settings don't resolve this. I'm not an advanced Gimp user, but most of the hundreds of operations I've done with Gimp have simply involved the Crop tool, so it is something I know how to use.

Check the Tool Options for the crop tool. You might have "Expand from centre" selected.

Possibly mis-clicked in tool options, which is easy to do.

Whenever GIMP seems to be behaving oddly, start out there.
