Never heard about something like this. Can you provide the complete error message text?

Michael

Complete error message text: GNU Image Manipulation has stopped working. Windows will try to find solution and if not will close window. I tried to send another email to your gimp address and it was returned as not deliverable. After many, many amature tries to get gimp working, and after trying a trouble-shooter program, I get the information that gimp is not compatable with , I guess, my computer. I am running Windows 7 by the way. I don't know if you will recieve this but I will try to send it anyway. Constance

There are plenty of people who run GIMP on Windows 7 without any problems. If this is the first time you've actually run GIMP, then it will create a font cache of all the fonts you've got installed. This can take a considerable amount of time.

No idea why you can't send mail to the gimp-user-list mailing list address - make you you're subscribed there.

We have seen cases where "free download" websites use the GIMP as bait to trick users into installing spyware or malware. These installations may or may not include a working copy of the GIMP.

This is the only safe place I know of to download a copy of the GIMP for Windows:

http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

If yours did not come from here, the first thing to try is to uninstall it, download a new copy from the "official" source, install the "known good" one and see if it works.

That's all I can think of to try, so far.

Thank you for the information. I did un-instal gimp and then went to the web site you provided. I downloaded the program and this time I even got a page asking me to confirm my subscription to up-dates. I was "told" the program instaled sucessufully. BUT I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I FIRST WROTE TO YOU ABOUT. I try to open gimp and get the same message that GNU Image Manipulation has stopped working and windows will close. Something is wrong I know. I will not bother you any further with this. You might as well see to it that I don't get sent notifications of any up-dates or anything else because for some reason I can not get gimp to be usable. I am dissapointed but I am not a computer person and don't know what to do about it. Thanks for your time. Constance

Sorry to hear that. I would suggest that you ask someone who "is" a technical person to look at your computer and try to figure out what is wrong with it. Since others are not reporting the same problem you see, it is likely that there is something wrong with the computer itself. If so, the sooner the problem is sorted out, the less hassles and expense it is likely to cause. Plus, you will then be able to use the GIMP.

Best of luck, and if you want to stop receiving GIMP mailings, you can go here and cancel your subscription:

Best of luck,
