SCALE finalizes Expo Details

The Southern California Linux Expo is this weekend in Los Angeles. Here are some last minute details:

The Expo has added one additional speaker. Doug Hass, Director of Business Development for ImageStream, will speak on “Advanced Quality of Service and Firewalls using Linux”

His presentation covers the key concepts of quality of service and access list filtering using Open Source tools. The presentation includes an explanation of filtering using Linux's iptables tool and standard queuing methods as defined in the Differentiated Services RFC as well as applications of these methods through generic case studies.

The Expo has added another BOF, “Schools And Open Source Software”. There are a few BOF (Birds Of a Feather) session slots still available at SCALE on Sunday. If your group needs a meeting room for a BOF, contact gareth@socallinuxexpo.com to reserve one. The current BOFs can be viewed at http://socallinuxexpo.com/scale5x/events/bof.php

If you live nearby, and have surplus electronic equipment you'd like to discard, you can bring it to SCALE and dispose of it legally. Access to the drop off point is a bit circuitous; we've created a map showing the approach and departure from the drop off area. If you are bringing equipment to dispose of, make sure you consult the map prior to leaving for the Westin. The map can be found at http://socallinuxexpo.com/scale5x/events/ewaste.php

If you don't register ahead of time and have a question about the Expo during the Expo weekend, the SCALE phone number will be manned by Registration personnel during show hours. You can call 877-831-2569 and be routed through the SCALE Asterisk PBX directly to someone at Registration.

The Vendor showcases currently booked are IBM with “Business Innovation Through Linux”, and Verio with “Linux Virtualization in Action”.

The SCALE sponsors have generously donated oodles of prizes for the SCALE raffles. The biggies are:

- Silicon Mechanics Rackform iServ R207 - This is a 1U rackmount server with a Dual-Core Intel Xeon CPU

- 6-GB Seagate USB 2.0 pocket hard drive (Donated by Silicon Mechanics and Seagate)

- Winner's choice of Intel Core 2 Duo or Dual-Core Intel Xeon 5130 Series processor (from Silicon Mechanics and Intel) - Four VIP Tickets to the Ticketmaster Suite at the Clippers VS Bobcats game February 26th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles

Winners must be present to receive raffle prizes.

SCALE has received a ton of books to disburse during the Expo. Each speaker at SCALE will receive several books to hand out at their session. (E.g., for the best question during a Q&A session).

SCALE will be February 9-11, at The Westin LAX Hotel. Expo information and registration is available at http://socallinuxexpo.com/
