Changing FGcolor during painting

I just noticed -- the foreground color can currently be changed during painting, and the change immediately takes effect -- old paint is still the old color, new paint uses the new color (even for the ink tool); You must trigger the plugin to change the FGcolor before you start painting, though. What is stopping the actions (such as 'swap FG/BG colors' 'next color in palette'...) from being activated during painting? Is this a GTK+ limitation or something that GIMP does?
This ability is very useful to speed up painting (see MTPaint, http://mtpaint.sf.net)), and for mouse users, the ability to change the brush scale or opacity during painting would be even more useful.
