Gimp 2.8 zoom in and out algorithm

Hi, I am trying to better understand some graphics algorithms Gimp 2.8 uses. I'm interested in knowing what algorithm (what is it called) is used when zooming in and out of an image. I have the 2.8 source code and it would also help if anyone could point out what file I might find this code in.

I am converting some of the simpler graphics algorithms I find to basic to better understand it. I'm not working on speed improvements so there is no need for a comparison to other algorithms. Just Gimp 2.8.
