GIMP gets better and more important every day. The GIMP community grows continuously, and the needs of GIMP users grow too of course. So we have decided to redesign our website completely which we’re happy to be online already ;) We hope you like the new look&feel and all the improvements we’ve been working on.

There are lots of improvements to our site:

  • Our content now uses available screen space to a certain degree.
  • more compact view of news
  • ability to submit news if you found something (GIMP)eresting ;-)

  • Users can now change their password.
  • The user profile has been extended to view statistics of users.
  • Private messages system now has a history.
  • Latest comments are now shown to the right to see where other users have posted a comment and to make communication easier.

POLLS

  • We’ve the ability now to open multiple polls at once!
  • Poll now have graphs to better visualize the results.
  • Polls can be either single or multiple choice now! Multiple choice polls have a different graph.

CONTESTS

  • We have implemented a new GFX contests system. We’re now able to launch all kind of contests and we’re also trying to get some prizes for winners!
  • Users can upload contest submissions.
  • After the submission phase ends, all other users can vote for every submission if they like it.
  • Suggestions on the submissions can be made by commenting them.

FORUMS INTERFACE

  • Our forums are connected to the official mailing lists, and provide better readability and a more structured overview now.

MISC

  • Watch latest the YouTube videos regarding GIMP directly on the site if you want.
  • Latest forum activities can be seen to the right now.
  • Downloads are now restructured and commentable.
  • Our entry page (portal) now offers a more compact AJAX powered view of content by other GIMP websites (if you know more, let us know!)

The whole site is totally new and was made with Ruby on Rails. If you should find a bug or have a suggestion please let us know via comment or team@gimpusers.com. Some already known (minor) bugs in the forums will be fixed soon. We hope you enjoy the new site!

The "Design" is completely tasteless. No style, a little bit of everything:

What's that title font about? 80s tv series?

The heading background: Hey, you've read all the tuts about glossy effect, but the rest of the page is completely plain?

What's that red line going to tell? "If you cross this line you enter Badwebdesign Territory"?

What's up with the 'Latest News' BG? Scanned used toilet paper?

Content is more important on this site, anyway.

There was a problem with the "reset password" function. Should be working now.

Dear Friends,

Not to bust on you or anything but are we talking about "Prizes" or "prices?" I would be more than happy to play editor for any article that will be posted. I think the idea of prizes is a good one. Everyone is always looking to try something new and cannot always afford it. I have been a GIMP user now for several years and I still prefer it to other applications.

Sorry, but I find the layout so chaotic. Really, how is someone supposed to find stuff here? Why not doing something a là Kaleidoscope (http://www.kaleidoscopeapp.com/)?

nice new stuff on the site! the overall site looks drastically better, also the contests will be cool I guess. I try to participate if I have time. GIMP is getting really better, it needs a cool community site like gimpusers. keep up the good work!
