Hello everyone, I am trying to 3D extrude an oval into an elongated tunnel using GIMP 2.8.14; the size of my pic is 4960x3508 (300x300 ppi); my settings are:
Directional-shrink
Exe. Direction 270
Bump Azimuth 125
Bump Elevation 90
Bump Depth 60
Ambient light 0
Bump Curve -Spherical

Every time GIMP crashes on me, does anyone have any suggestions on solutions?

Hi L Johnson,

Not sure if Gimp running under Windows makes C++ calls, but the error message you are getting reminds me of the exact same error message I would get with some other programs after downloading and installing shareware. What happened is that the shareware installed a slightly earlier version of the Microsoft C++ redistributable package. If you are running Gimp under windows, try running Windows Update and see if there are available updates for any Microsoft packages such as C++.

Hello,

I've been using version 2.8.14 since January and hadn't had any problems until today. Whenever I try to open the program I get a runtime error

Program: C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.8.exe

The application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Please contact the support team for more information.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program a few times and still get the same error.

What can I do to fix this issue?

Thank you.

That fix is easy - get the updated installer from http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Preferably the torrent to distribute the load, but there's also a direct link to the setup exe file there.

I can't seem to find any resources on fixing the missing icons, though I've seen multiple bug reports mentioned.

Should I simply downgrade or is there a quick way I could install the missing icons myself?

Works fine here. Make sure that you're using the updated installer on both systems.

Oops. I forgot to mention that the issue with Gimp 2.8.14 and Python crashing with an error code 0xc0000005 in libpixman-1-0.dll on my Win7 X64 machine does not occur on my WinXP X32 machine.

I have the same issue with Gimp 2.8.14 for Windows 7 X64 with Python crashing with an error code 0xc0000005 in libpixman-1-0.dll. My solution was to uninstall 2.8.14 and reinstall 2.8.10. No reboot was required after installing the earlier version, and all of my settings and plugins were preserved.

Got the same obvious issues as already mentioned (% symbol not correctly). Also the Rectangle select tool is jittery and slow. What the hell... I'm going back to 2.8.10 which ran flawlessly.

Would be nice if you could add the link to the BitTorrent-based download, too - this actually gets faster the more people use it, unlike download.gimp.org which might be rather slow at times:

I have justed updated the link to the version that fixes the "crash on window resize" and "missing icons" bugs.

Hi, I've upgraded to 2.8.14. I'm glad for the fixed bugs, but I've encountered some new issues: the levels control bar doesn't display the icons (as in the attached pic). And zoom level control doesn't display the percent simbol. I think that as soon there will be a 2.8.16 release to fix the new bugs.

I have been using Gimp seriously for about 1 year now. Switched from Corel Photopaint. I enjoy using the software very much. I look forward to using 2.8.14.

I tried the link as well as the download button but the message says: "You may have mistyped the address or the file may have been removed." Is there a problem with this version as well?
