I just noticed the path provided in the INSTALL file is no longer correct. Currently it says:

ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/pre-gnome2/sources/libart_lgpl/

But the real path is

ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/libart_lgpl/

And yes, this version (2.3.11) works. Thanks.
