Larger paintbrush size

Is there a way to make the paint brush size much larger than 20 pixels?

Hi.
This is quite a common request. There are two types of brushes in the GIMP -- bitmap and parametric. Unfortunately they expose a different settings UI. You cannot currently change the size for bitmap brushes, you need to use or create a new parametric brush for this.

cheers

In the Brush Dialogue (Dialogue -> Brushes or Shift-Ctrl-B ) select "new" at the bottom. You can then define the brush size you want. In the next version of gimp brackets [ ] will make your brush larger and smaller.

Open the brush dialog by clicking on the current brush indicator, or by selecting Dialogues->Brushes, or by typing shift-control-B. At the bottom of the dialog is a row of buttons - the second from the left is the "New Brush" button, which opens the Brush Editor. You can create and name your brush there.
