Is there a way to lighten up a map (i.e., fade it a bit into a background) in GIMP?

Not sure I understand exactly but you could try Layers->Levels and move the center marker. Or try Color->Hue/Saturation and desaturating the image a bit.

Thanks for the advice. I think the color saturation is what I want. Just want to make all the colors lighter. Alan ----- Original Message ---
