GIMP -> mpeg or similar

I want to create a graphic ala an animated gif but need to write the output as an mpeg or avi or some-such.

Can this be done with the Gimp?

Is there a better application to be using? (Suggestions?)

Thanks.

If Gimp doesn't support any other format (which I don't know) you can create the .gif file and then use mplayer, transcode, and many others...

Cordially, Ismael

It can be done if you install GAP, the GIMP Animation Package.
