Gimp Start Up Problem

For about six months I've been having a problem with the Start Up. It's fine until it gets to "Fonts" then all of the sudden it freezes up and usually causes my computer to freeze up too. I have gone through all of my fonts and none of them are giving me any trouble in Word or Paint. Does any one know what's going on?
Thanks for any information.

Probably a problem with Gimp's font-cache.

Try this:

search for a file called .fonts-cache-1

(With Gimp for Windows, it is in "Documents and Settings"/
dont ask me where it is under Linux or other systems ...)

Rename it.

Start Gimp. This will take quite long as the font-cache is rebuilt.

Exit Gimp.

Start Gimp. It should start up in "normal" time again.
