blur algorightm used by xv

when the xv display an image, it automatically by default smooth the image ( or you can enable it by press a 's' key ). i found the effect is ok in the term of noise reducing, so i am here wondering what is the blue algorithm it used and if it is possible using it stand alone?

Take a look at its source code and see if you can find out from there. Why are you posting this XV question here? Try writing to its author and asking him.
