Finding avreage color in an image

Hello all!

I found this tutorial http://fotofects.com/articles/432/1/Color-Correction and i thought id try to do the same in Gimp. Is there a way to get the average color of a whole image as in the second step of the tutorial?

You can find the averages of R G and B channels in the Histogram: Layers->Colors->Histogram

You should then be able to create a blank image as shown in the web-page you provided with it as the background color.
