I can run gimp from my home directory, but gimp can not find my scanner.

Gimp will find my scanner, if I log out, and log in as root, and run gimp from root.

How do I run gimp from my home directory, and get it to see my scanner?

I can not use xsane from my home directory, unless I bring up a terminal window, and log on as root, and enter xsane at the command prompt.

I am thinking that I need to log out of my home directory, log in as root, and change permissions for xsane.

OS: FC3 Gimp: ver 2.2.8
Scanner: Epson Expression 636

You should check if you have the the neccessary priviledges to access the scanner device. Usually, it is owned by the user 'root' and group 'scanner'. You'll have to add your normal user account to this group in order to have access to the device.
