How do I alter image dimensions in Gimp?

Hello :-)

As you probably already know, MS Paint has tabs at eight points around an image that a user can grab ad pull to inctease the dimensions of an image without affecting the image itself. This 23K image illustrates what I'm yipping about

What I want to know is, is how do I get Gimp 2.2.7 to alter an image's dimensions like that?

BTW, the origional kitten photo came from http://dailykitten.com

Take care! Hope to hear from you soon! Wuff!

Gimp provides this functionality through the Image>Canvas Size item. The interface is precision-driven.

The interactive interface described above sounds like a nice addition. How would you feel about speccing out the behavior in detail and filing a feature request in the gnome bugzilla?

cheers

Activate the chain symbol in the layers dialog for all layers (only necessary if there is more than one layer) - if you don't "chain" them, only the active layer will be scaled.

Then use the "Scale Layer or Selection" tool from the toolbox and drag the image border (or is it a layer border? - not sure).

When finished with scaling, right-click the image, then click image - fit canvas to layers to re-fit the canvas.
