bump map and layer mask

one of the things i use alot to play with is bumpmap. But i have no idea how it works lol i just close my eyes and when i open them up i get this random image that most of the time looks cool :)

what i do know is the bumpmap layer you select is pusht trough the current layer. But what about the layer mask what does the bump map plugin do with the current layer mask ?

aha i think i figure it out. the bumping only occurs into the withe area of the layer mask thing :) (big lamp above my head :)
