Color change not effective

I'm trying to change the color of a coffee bag in a picture. I've tried several different methods with an extra layer set to "hue" mode. Here are the youtube channels where I saw the videos.

these are great methods, however when I try them on my pic the colors are very transparent. Whereas in the videos they seem allot more opaque. Attached you will find the picture that I'm trying to change.

Changing the hue works on bright and saturated colors, not a something very dark. Try the "Dodge", "Screen", or "Grain merge" modes.
