program crashes

I received a message stating the GNU Manipulation has timed out which stopped windows. A few seconds later the programs shuts down deleting all my work. Pease help ASAP

I've looked in the online manual and did not see a way to automatically save your session. Is there one?

Where did you download GIMP from? What OS are you running? What were you doing just before it showed you this error? On Sun, Jan 11, 2015 at 7:47 AM SportShots wrote:

GIMP website then gimpusers.com

Could you clarify what you mean by GIMP website _then_ gimpusers.com? On Sun, Jan 11, 2015 at 11:19 AM SportShots wrote:

GIMP should be acquired via the gimp.org website.

Logging in to gimp.com, rather than gimp.org, takes one to a web page with nothing more than a large number of links (10 at the moment) to various versions of gimp. They are tabulated in a page headed “Ads.” I believe it likely that many if not most of these are likely to contain spam or viruses.

Many times recently, this users list has been visited by new users having spam-like and virus-like complaints.

I’m guessing that gimp.com is relatively new (I’ve never visited there before) and it is likely this flurry of new and unfortunately unhappy users has fallen into this trap.

I am not sure how one goes about shutting down this malicious website - this is, after all, a free country.

However, the registrant is at (480) 624-2599, located in Scottsdale, Arizona. And calls itself “Domains by Proxy, LLC.

These new users might like to lodge a complaint there. But I doubt if it would be very helpful.

I don't use Windows, but this seems to be an eternal problem.

So I set about going through the motions of downloading a windows version

Start at http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Then "Show other downloads"

Then "Windows"

Comment: This assumes that if a Windows version is not in the main listing, it must be in "Other downloads" I do not believe this to be user friendly to Windows users, particularly as they probably make up 80% of users?

But then having got to the Windows section, the first line reads;

The Windows installer packages by Jernej Simončič are distributed from the GIMP HTTP server (download.gimp.org) and its mirror servers

Comment: Clicking on download.gimp.org presents a directory listing. I could imagine Windows users rolling over to die at this point! But continuing it then offers first a torrent

Download GIMP 2.8.14

GIMP for Windows Torrent link
program link

FWIW

This adjusts to the platform. Windows users do see the Windows downloads, and would have to choose "Other downloads" to see the Linux and OSX links and downloads..

The best place to download GIMP if you are new, would be here:

http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

I would suggest removing what you may have installed already, and trying fresh with a download from the "official" source. Otherwise we can't be sure of the integrity of the program.
