GIMP ignores dpi?

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1

If I create an image and double the dpi to 180, GIMP shows it in the same size at 100% zoom as if I hadn't doubled the dpi. Isn't this a bug? Doubling the dpi ( and keeping the same resolution ) should make it display at half the size.

You need to disable the "Dot for Dot" item in the "View" menu, this is enabled by default.

Bye,

DPI is pretty much irrelevant for displaying on screen. 100% zoom displays each pixel in the image as one pixel on screen. If you were to print the image, you should find that doubling the DPI does lead to the image printing at half the size.

Mark.

Not if you disable the "dot for dot" mode. Then gimp takes the display dpi into account and you can watch your documents in their "real" size.

But watch that Web brwosers in particular tend to ignore the dpi setting - and with good reason as a lot of programs put bad vales in there, e.g. "1" or "72" are very common.

...so is THAT what that option does?
