newbie question

Sorry, a simple question from a newbie to Gimp. I'm using 2.0.1.

How do I "dock" dialogues into the grey area beneath the main Gimp box? When I hover the mouse over this area it displays a caption: "You can drop dockable dialogues here"... but how?

I thought I could have tabbed dialogues docked there, convenient in managing the workspace. Probably I can but am missing the obvious somewhere.
