Is it easy to use GIMP to draw arrows?

Yes. You can do it fairly easily manually using the Bezier selection tool to make your border, then stroke and fill it. I wrote a plug-in to do it too: http://www.graphics-muse.com/gfxmuse/gfxmuse.html Look for the "GFXArrows" plug-in information: http://www.graphics-muse.com/gfxmuse/gfxarrows.html

Probably the easiest way is to use the bezier tool

I have guides installed in the Gimp 1.2.5 (I can't remember if they came as default or not)

So, set up a grid Click your arrow shape on another layer Stroke and fill the arrow as preferred Cut. paste, resize and rotate as desired.
