ANNOUNCE: GIMP 2.2.12 Release and GIMP 2.3.10 Development Release

Hi,

over the last two days, two new GIMP releases have been uploaded to ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/

GIMP 2.2.12 is a bug-fix release in the stable GIMP 2.2 series. Among other fixes, it removes a possible buffer overrun in the XCF parser. Even though there are currently no known exploits for this security hole, an update is strongly recommended. A complete list of bugs fixed in 2.2.12 is available at http://developer.gimp.org/NEWS-2.2

GIMP 2.3.10 is a snapshot of the development leading to GIMP 2.4. A list of changes is available from http://developer.gimp.org/NEWS. We are slowly but steadily working towards a stable 2.4 release. Any help with that effort is very much welcomed. New features are likely not going to be accepted before 2.4, but we need any help we can get for polishing the UI, reviewing strings, fixing bugs and preparing the release.

Compiling GIMP-2.3.10 fails on windows (MSYS/MinGW/gtk-2.8)

the build failed at linking gimp.exe because g_listenv is not found in glib-2.0

This was fixed in: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/glib/glib/glib.symbols?r1=1.56&r2=1.57 which means gimp is depending on glib-2.10 instead of glib-2.8.2 (on windows)

After "backporting" the fix (i.e. removing the "PRIVATE" and recompiling GLIB-2.0)
the build succeeded.

It does depend on 2.10 for some time already, doesn't it? AFAIK GTK+ 2.8 depends Glib 2.10 on Windows, even.

There will be a number of people who will have trouble finding glib 2.10. I just went to the download section of http://www.gtk.org/ and checked the download link. It does not mention a 2.10 version at all. It says "The current stable version is GTK+ 2.8". Clicking the "Source" link takes me to the v2.8 directory. I had to change that to v2.10 in order to find the newer versions of glib, gtk, and pango. Looks like they need to update the download web page.

We are talking about a development snapshot here. People who aren't able to locate glib 2.10 on the ftp.gtk.org aren't really the target of such a release. Despite the fact that most distributions ship the necessary binary packages to build 2.3.10. I admit that the structure on ftp.gtk.org is somehwat confusing, but this is the wrong list to complain about this...
