Could it be possible to dynamically turn this feature on and off? Usually MDI gets in the way, but sometimes (editing multiple sessions, for example) it would be helpful to have it for just a moment and turn it back off afterwards.

(Such a feature might be better provided transparently by GTK than directly in GIMP)
