ANNOUNCE: GIMP 1.2.4

The long awaited version 1.2.4 has finally been released. This is a bugfix release in the stable 1.2 series. Grab it at:

ftp://ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v1.2/v1.2.4/

There have been many, many bug fixes. And the Win32 stuff has been synced up. See the ChangeLog for details.

Also, the print plug-in now depends on libgimpprint. Grab it from http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/ or ./configure --disable-print if you don't have a need for it.

Note that you must use Gimp-Print 4.2 (4.2.5 or 4.2.6-pre1 recommended). 4.3 (the current development line) is not compatible with this release.

As we have discovered a few hours after the release, some annoying bugs managed to slip past the bug squad and are infecting this brand new release. I have modified the web page for the stable release and listed some of the known bugs:
http://www.gimp.org/stable_ver.html I think that it is nice to do something like the Mozilla release notes (at a much more modest scale), listing some of the recent changes and known bugs. This may reduce the number of nasty surprises for the users.

Raphaël-

Both of the bugs you mention have been fixed in the 1-2 branch in CVS based on my reading of the bug reports. Rather than requiring everyone that wants to build 1.2.4 to check out that branch, would it be possible for you or one of the other developers to generate diffs and then both attach them to the two bug reports and put them in the v1.2.4 directory on ftp.gimp.org?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

The plan is to have a 1.2.5 release correcting these bugs pretty quickly (possibly by the end of teh weekend), with the usual patches. There will be a couple of other things that make it into the 1.2.5, but not much.

For a list of outstanding issues, have a look at this page... http://makeashorterlink.com/?S34422BA4
