Why not include DDS format? Getting a plug-in to work on mac with it is a fudging pain in the behind

Annoying as fudge.

We are a small team. Every bit of new code should have a maintainer, otherwise it will get broken eventually, and there will be noone to take care of it.

We know that people have problems with the third-party DDS plugin at least on Windows. Adding the plugin to the default GIMP installer wiĺl not magically fix everythng that is broken.

https://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/ seems to be an active project with roadmaps and all.

For Mac, you can build it yourself or ask someone to do it for you.

1) It's inactive for the past two years or so. 2) Its Windows build are known to fail to work.

Minor quibble. :) The last SVN date is December 2013. Also, for fun, I download the source and built it for 2.8 series. Seems to work fine. I was able to load DDS files and write DDS without crash on Win 8.1 64bit.
