push / pop selection how to?

Hi,
I'd like to save the current selection (push) select None
do some other work (invoking a plugin) restore the selection (pop)

Is there a simple method to achieve this.

Select -> "Save to Channel"?

Right-click on saved channel, "Channel to Selection"
