question about resolution

Hello. I created files in Microsoft Word, then loaded them up to GIMP to get a 300 print size resolution. It seems to hold for most, but when I did spot checking some of the files I had changed to 300, changed back to 119 when I put them back in GIMP. Why is this?

If I save a file at 300, then upload it into a drawing mechanism, can the file change back to 300?
