Can't paint colour on image, only on transparency. NOT INDEXED
I really need someones help here. I'm really new to GIMP and my brain is spinning. I've been hunting all over the net for a solution. I'm trying to swap my daughter's face into a picture. I've got everything lined up and working. I've got 2 layers. One with my daughters face and transparency around it. And another with the body of the cow I'm trying to swap it into. Please don't ask...
Here's the problem.. I'm trying to blend the colour from the edges of the cows face and the edge of her face to make a less abrupt transition. Using the paintbrush, the airbrush and the clone tool, I've tried painting the HSL Color and the LCh Color from the cow layer to the face layer. All I'm able to accomplish is painting the transparency on the face layer. It paints a different, more transparent colour on the face itself. But it's barely there at all.
Everything I can find says that it's a problem with the "Mode" being "Indexed". Mine is set to "RGB" for both layers. I've locking and unlocking the Alpha channel and pretty much everything I can think of. I've been at this literally 16 hrs and I'm ready to throw my computer accross the room and pick up a pen and draw her face on the damn cow.
Please help me.

Ok. If no one can help me with this, can you reccommend a simple way of having the colours blend between layers to accomplish what Im trying to do?

There are a lot of different types of images, and a bunch of different ways to get a particular image to look a particular way. Sometimes, it may even be hard to get any color from a color photo at all. Transparencies are a great way to get a color image that looks almost exactly how you want it.
