I've recently upgraded to a newer version of GIMP and the toolbox icon sizes are now groupable and scalable, but there's a large area of unused pixel real-estate surrounding each icon image, such that they aren't fully filling out the size of their "button area" in the toolbox.
Is there a way I could make a contribution to up-size the icon real-estate usage within the button area?
I'd like to be able to use the size it has for small theme, for example, but would like the physical image within the button itself to be larger and consume more pixels than it does today.
Thank you in advance.
Note: I am a programmer (C / C++) and could change source code if it's something scalable. And even if I can't change the actual GIMP product for the next release, can someone point me to where these icons are pulled from so I could manually go in change my own copy of the program?

I have also upgraded to a newer version of GIMP and it seems to be not as good as you have explained here even the toolbar has lesser options which makes me learn more code but would like to learn some (C / C++) languages, as you are a programmer. I think it will be an excellent topic for my dissertation. By the way, I have recently discovered a lot of useful articles at https://dissertationhelp.org.uk/what-is-a-dissertation/ that will be of great use for everyone who is preparing for writing their thesis.
