2.10.12 Text Box Issues

So I recently updated from 2.10.4 to 2.10.12 and I'm having issues with the text boxes. Whenever I alter the text in the text box and then try to change the color or font of the text, the changes I made sometimes do not change to the new color or font. I wish to change the color or font from the tool options on the side, but any changes I make to the text acts as if I was adding altered text from changing the text box dialog settings, if that makes sense. In the attached example .gif, I show you what I mean. Unfortunately, my recording software hides popup windows, so it's not obvious that I'm trying to change the color, but that is what I am trying to do.

Very difficult to see anything from that animation except you have lots of text layers.

There have been some changes to the text tool in recent updates. Going from Gimp 2.10.4 to Gimp 2.10.12, might be some inherited tool settings. Have you tried resetting?

Edit -> Preferences -> Tool Options then click the Reset to Default button. Ok that. Restart Gimp. See if it makes a difference.

Or it could be your workflow.

Unlikely from your screencapture but make sure that the Image is in RGB mode. Indexed mode will restrict available colours.

Change font from the text tool options and all the text in the text layer is altered. If the text colour has been changed in the on canvas text tool then select all and change back.

If the font changes unexpectedly make sure the font still exists on the computer you are using. Windows 10 in particular can hide fonts from Gimp. Get the font and put it in the Gimp fonts folder.
