Batch resize

I have a bunch of JPG images that are about 1200x900 and would like to resize them all to about 800x600.

Can gimp do this?

I don't want to do them one by one. I would like to select a directory and have all the files therein resized.

Gimp can but is not the best tool for this check out ImageMagick. Standard app on a lot of linux distros but there are ports to lesser OSes as well:)

the convert program that is part of this package is REALLY powerful for this sort of stuff.
