Parameter Conversion for PS USM

Regarding preview, what I would suggest is to select a small area of your image to process first. Then after you get your settings worked out, revert to processing the entire image.

One of the more powerful features of Photoshop is the USM (shapen, umask) feature. GIMP has a similar funnction (Windows version 1.2.4). However, the paramter settings are not one-to-one. Does anyone have suggestions on how to convert setting from the PS USM tool into the GIMP tool? The PS version also has a preview window which helps reduce trial and errors selections. I cannot find a similar feature under GIMP.
