Plug-ins for Windows?

Hello,

I just started using GIMP for Windows and am working through the basic tutorial. I noted that right away it wants me to use the plug-ins for "plasma" and "bumpmap". However, I get the impression that these plug-ins are only available for Linux. Am I right about that? If not, where can I get the Windows plug-ins?

Many thanks for any help.

Regards, ...John

I'm new at this also. Like John it looks to me like the Linux version is better too. I was wondering if there is a way to partition my hard drive with out reformatting so I can run Linux on it?

Plug-ins for Windows?

Did you try right clicking on the image and then Filters->Render->Clouds->Plasma... or Filters->Map->BumpMap...?

Great idea Mike! Most modern Linux distros will do the partitioning for you as it installs, except if your drive is formatted NTFS. That seems to still be an obscure file system and most recommend you set Windows up with FAT32 instead. At that point you can read & write to it from Linux.

If you should be NTFS already, then there are some partitioning programs that will let you "squeeze" the Windows down to give Linux space on the drive. If you have a very large drive now with 2 partitions already, then give Linux the second. Linux will install a boot loader which will let you move from one to the other easily.
