Would you like to be able to use your Google/Yahoo/MSN (OpenID) login on gimpusers, too?

Definately! I would enjoy the possibility to use my OpenID on different websites!

I don't have a special need for OpenID but I think it could be useful

Doesn't matter to me

Never, OpenID is a pain regarding privacy and personal data protection!

No. (please post a comment)

GIMP accepted in Google Summer of Code 2008!

In 2007 GIMP didn't make it into the program. Google has now published the list of supported projects in the Summer of Code (GSoC) program 2008 - and this year GIMP is in!

Congratulations from us too! Some of you may have already looked at the current ideas of the mentors which include:

* Tagging of GIMP resources
* On-canvas text editing
* GIMP Python
* SVG brushes
* UFRaw
* Enhancing Painting with parameter curves
* Search-based menu browser
* Unified UI for scripting
* Unit testing framework & Plug-in stability effort
* Benchmarking
* Font Selector Widget
* Additional file format plug-ins
* Filetype registration
* GEGL-Support

If you have your own idea feel free to discuss it in the developers chat (can be easily reched via our Chat link in the top navigation)!

However also if you apply for a programming work on an open source project such as GIMP, in the end Google decides if the project you took will be sponsored. So there is no guarantee.

These are some of the most important links that could be of your interest:
* the official GSoC-IRC #gsoc @ freenode.net
* the official chat (#gimp auf irc.gimp.org) for devlopers: Chat
* all projects in a list: http://code.google.com/soc/2008/
* gimp.org wiki containing all current ideas of the mentors http://wiki.gimp.org/gimp/SummerOfCode2008ideas
* More questions? Look at the official FAQ here: http://code.google.com/opensource/gsoc/2008/faqs.html

You can apply to project from March 23rd - March 31st 2008. After this period google tells you if your chosen project will be supported or not! Meanwhile please take a look at the detailed ideas of the devs in the wiki! We'll inform you again when the time for applications starts!

    I'm just wondering how much longer they are going to keep putting off CMYK support. People have been asking for this feature for *years*. It's one of the main barriers for many photoshop users to switch over.

    Also, I'd like to see a decent slice tool to make the GIMP more useful for web design, personally.

    CMYK will come natively when gimps core is moved to GEGL, so there's no special need to assign a seperate project for this.

    my most wanted feature is the on canvas text editing ;) that would help web and graphics designers a lot!

    Probably too late and I don't know how complicated it would be, but it would be cool to have a wraparound option for brushwork (makes creating Seamless textures much easier). I also want to give kudos to the developers and wish them success this summer. :)
