Since 10 Sep there is a new blog called “GIMP UI brainstorm” where ideas for a new GIMP UI (user interface) are collected.

Everyone can contribute to solve the problem which seems to be one of the most important ones in GIMP.

Please send your ideas to the GIMP UI redesign team, as described on the website.

personally, i like the gimp user interface, i just reconfigure it so that all my tools are on one side, then i have the window on the other side. it works great like this for when you use a wacom tablet. The menus could be made a little neater, but thats about it. IMO

As to read on the page, it is moderated by the GIMP UI redesign team. These people are actually GIMP developers.

This is great. Does this really matters or are we only going to talk about it without any developers actually listening and participating?
