2.8 rc1 on XP

Win32 installer worked perfectly for me, the only problems I've had so far seem to be related to reloading Script-Fu scripts from inside GIMP.

(Note to self: Double-check the "To:" address before hitting Send.)

Has anyone gotten the windoze installer version of 2.8.0-rc1 to work properly? I've been running 2.7.5 for a while but when I tried installing the 2.8 rc1 I'm having problems. The gimp comes up ok, but when I attempt to load a .jpg file it hangs; as I recall it's spinning its wheels in ufraw-gimp.exe (I forgot to write down the exact name, but I think that's it).

Are you running XP or something more recent?

2.8 rc1 on XP

That's a separate topic, but ... I'm trying to update and expand a script-fu that I created years ago in GIMP 2.4, and after several iterations of test/tweak/refresh scripts, 2.8.0-RC1 just up and crashes.

By now, it's also my first script-fu that actually needs to query what version of GIMP it's running on before operating (I wish I was making that up).

What issue have you had related to reloading Script-Fu scripts from inside GIMP?

2.8 rc1 on XP

It doesn't, and it shouldn't - desktop is not something that the installer should touch.

It creates only a single entry in the start menu, labelled "GIMP 2". In particular, no subitems, such as uninstall (should it?)

That is correct - with the new Start Menu in Vista and 7, opening subfolders is quite annoying, and since uninstall functionality is provided through the Programs and Features applet in Control Panel, there's really no need to clutter the Start Menu.

A possible issue -- this is running booted from an "F:" drive, with no "C:" or "D:" drive on the machine.

Shouldn't be a problem, I've got a similar setup.

2.8 rc1 on XP

Thanks.
A little more info.
If I cd to the bin directory and run gimp-2.8.exe -v
I see the following:

GNU Image Manipulation Program version 2.8.0-RC1 git-describe: Unknown, shouldn't happen

using GEGL version 0.2.0 (compiled against version 0.2.0) using GLib version 2.30.2 (compiled against version 2.30.2) using GdkPixbuf version 2.24.1 (compiled against version 2.24.1) using GTK+ version 2.24.10 (compiled against version 2.24.10) using Pango version 1.29.4 (compiled against version 1.29.4) using Fontconfig version 2.8.0 (compiled against version 2.8.0) using Cairo version 1.10.2 (compiled against version 1.10.2) (Type any character to close this window)

Unfortunately, I haven't got a C debugging environment, so I'm kinda hamstrung.

BTW, this is on an amd athlon xp, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Is the git-describe line the point where it's exiting, or is that just information and it should continue executing?

Thanks for any ideas,

Gary
