ChangeLog

Hi,

because I just noticed by my last checkin, there are a few, small things where I need to be picky. Reason being is that the ChangeLog is not consistent with its syntax anymore.

I think there is even a GNU style guide for ChangeLogs around, I might have even posted it to the gimp-docs mailing list in the past.

Ulf for example uses some kind of a heading for it's commit message in the ChangeLog, Marco forgets the whitespace between the '*' and the entry and Julien sometimes uses 8 spaces for indentation than tabs (yes - the only case where I can think of where tabs are used).

So, not being to fuzzy here, but this looks like inconsistencies are creeping in.

Cheers,

julien

ChangeLog

Hi,

ChangeLog is no longer useful with Git and I stopped filling it.

Do we go on with ChangeLog nevertheless?

ChangeLog

Roman Joost (Dienstag, 19. Mai 2009, 12:58):

Ulf for example uses some kind of a heading for it's commit message in the ChangeLog,

I used the first line of my commit messages (I think this is valid) and tried to follow "Git for the lazy":

"Your first line should be a summary of the commit changes in a single sentence. It should be 50 characters or less. It should be in present tense: this matches up with git's merge commit messages, which you haven't met yet, but you'll eventually run into when you hit branching and merging."

http://www.spheredev.org/wiki/Git_for_the_lazy#Writing_good_commit_messages

But I do not edit the ChangeLog file any more, IMHO this produces too many conflicts (and I have problems to resolve them).

BTW, you should no longer use the ChangeLog snippet for your commit message. Try 'gitk' to see why.

Bye, Ulf

I haven't seen the wiki page Ulf just posted. So - you're right ... sorry for my ignorance.
