Translation updates for GIMP 2.8

Hi,

Now that GIMP 2.8 is out, we ask translators to work in the gimp-2-8 branch to update translations of the new stable version.

The master branch is where development of the v2.10 is happening, and it's not suitable for daily use yet.

Translation updates for GIMP 2.8

It would be well to see 2.8 in Damned Lies. There are only 2.6 and master on Damned Lies. So translators don't see missing tranlations.

Seems to be there now, at least on http://l10n.gnome.org/module/gimp/#gimp-2-8

The Romanian translation for script-fu is still not included in Windows 2.8 version (the gimp20-script-fu.mo file is there, but is almost empty).

Is this really so hard to figure what is happening there ? It was the same in 2.7.x, the same in RC, the same now.

Has this been reported as a bug?

Something is wrong also with the python translation. In Menu -> File -> Create -> the string "New Brush from Text..." is still in Englush, while the string in source code *is* translated: http://l10n.gnome.org/POT/gimp.gimp-2-8/gimp-python.gimp-2-8.ro.po

#: ../plug-ins/pygimp/plug-ins/text-brush.py:81 msgid "New Brush from _Text..."
msgstr "Penel nou din _text..."

I feel I am working in vain ...

I don't know how to fill a bug here, I only reported this issue to this list sometime in April (with subject "what might be the reason a translation for script-fu is not present in compiled package ?") and separately to Jernej Simončič (quote from his answer "I used the official 2.7.5 tarball - you should check if the translations are fine there." -> I checked and the translation was ok) and also to Partha Bagchi because his version(s) contained the same problem.

Hi Cristi,

this is easy. Go to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/, click on the big blue button 'Open a New Account', fill in your account data. After this, click on 'New' in the header, then on 'Other', then on 'GIMP'. Fill in your bug report data, optionally add an attachment, click 'Commit'.
Or go to http://www.gimp.org/bugs/. The first chapter 'Bugs' contains useful information. At its end you find one link 'Submit a bug report' - just click there.

I hope I could help you.

Best regards, grafxuser

Python translations don't appear on 64bit Windows - I'll have to find out why.

When did you commit this? To which branch? What is the commit sha1?

Before anything, something seems weird here http://l10n.gnome.org/module/gimp/ : the script-fu strings count is 61 for all languages, both 2.8 and master branch, whereas my local script-fu .po file has 603 strings !! Huh ??

For the rest: I did not commit myself since I have no commit rights on GNOME, but according to the robot log messages that I keep, my latest changes were commited on 10 February 2012 (these being my latest corrections, whereas my script-fu translation as a whole was almost complete about one year ago, if not earlier).

I am speaking about 2.7.x and newer, so the master branch then, 2.8 today.

I don't know nothing about SHA1 for my translation or whatever (I don't know where to find it, nor how to check with the code). Sorry for that.

But please can you give an explanation for the 61 strings count limit in online version ?

I checked with the official source code release for 2.8 and it seems that things have been screwed up somewhere. The script-fu .po files for languages ar, el, eo, ko, ro and te reports 61 total strings, the same as the current online version which now has been truncated down to 61 strings for *all* languages.

It sounds like translators are pushing translations based on master into 2.8. The reduction in translatable string count is probably related to a local trimming/cleaning commit that I have locally that has not been pushed yet - but the removal of string has been prematurely pushed.

I'm glad that after two years of expectations, the official release of the great new GIMP 2.8 includes a perfect working French or German languages, but screws my language. What has the French more than the Romanian ? Is my language from the third world, or what ?

By looking at the files from Damned Lies should I expect that the script-fu related menus in future 2.8.1, 2.8.2, etc. releases will have 542 strings in English-only for all languages ?

Cristi,

please stop making such assumptions, now. It won't do anyone any good - and might rather make someone refrain from putting effort into a solution than encouraging one.

It looks like we're facing a technical problem here, maybe some confusion about what translations have gone where (i.e. from the master branch to the gimp-2-8 branch).

I've been taking another look at the plug-ins which ship with pygimp and I see problems in the markup. There is inconsistent use of N_ vs. _ and some strings that should be translated are not marked at all.
