Windows users should be happy today! A first unstable developement release of GIMP 2.5 is now available for the Windows operating system!
Today the GIMP developers released the (probably) last version in den 2.5-development branch: 2.5.3 offer lots of new features and improvements.
A bugfix release for the stable GIMP 2.4 has been released.
Some days ago the final tarball of GIMP 2.5.2 appeared online on the GIMP ftp server. The tarball is another intermediate step to the soon awaited stable version of GIMP: 2.6. You can download the tarball directly via our downloads section.
The next stable release of GIMP nears. Version 2.6 is in the final stages of developement and the developers prepare for a pre release version soon!
Because recently many user accounts were created automatically to deliver spam, we added a captcha to the "register" page.
Additionally, unused user accounts (= those who registered but never logged in) will be deleted shortly. Of course you can register again with the same name.
A new version in the stable series of GIMP 2.4 has been released. GIMP 2.4.6 fixes bugs!
"Meet the GIMP!" is again not reachable. The server is well and running,
but the domain registrar has some trouble.
About 2 weeks ago the Libre Graphics Meeting 2008 took place in Wrocław, Poland. It was a very interesting 4 day show. Even 3 of the GSoC students had the chance to attend the show this year! (Thanks to Micheal Schumacher for dropping us a line on this)
Google has accepted GIMP as a sponsored application for a while now in SoC 2008. 5 Projects have been accepted, and today is the official coding start for the developers!

Making a pencil drawing from a photo: how do i make this for my self?

Creating a bloody splatter texture: Nice tutorial. worked like a charm. I did the splatter in blue though, and it looked just as good- not that it looked like blood then, but it was for something i was doing. Anyways for all you people who keep having trouble, you need to create a new layer for the sun thing, then fill it with FG. When you need to "lock the transparency just lock the alpha (its a little block with a square next to it.) It's actually very easy and effective- and it doesn't really matter what size or backround color you have it: i had a white backround with a 450x100 size frame. Still worked like a charm.

Create futuristic looking tech pattern: Wonderful! I did whaqt you said as extras, both together and separately. I also messed with the colors. It looks great! Awesome!

A colored swirl of light: Ok, all is good until Whirl and Pinch. My 4 corners have disappeared in the process and the colors are off. Then the gradient isn't a circle and is transparent...not likeyours. So I gave up for the moment. Help???
