I can not see Gimp users jumping ship . I just thought it might boost the acceptance of Ubuntu and Chromebook in the education market.

I'm a think Adobe feels a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of new users who would have automatically belonged to them a few years ago suddenly noticed the GIMP, and a mighty revenue stream disappeared forever.

I have come to see The Desktop Is Dead as more of a campaign slogan in support of killing the desktop than a prediction or observation about the market. Software As A Service guarantees 100% vendor lock-in and assures full vendor access to all users' personal data, all the time: Handcuffs and total surveillance guarantee more revenue, so if possible, the desktop must be killed. I'm sure Adobe sees the logic in this, and of course Google is leading the charge...

I don't think that will work out for them. Most users want at least some control over their computers some of the time, and laws of physics issues assure that tablets can not compete with workstations on the application performance front. But then again, I'm may be "too old to know anything" about computers and such.

:o)

Times are changing for sure. I really like Libraoffice. After playing with Google Docs it has many feature I enjoy too. The new doc and sheet Iphone apps that syncs my phone with Docs is a nice feature. Any changed made with my phone are instantly made on my cloud documents.

This is great news! Thanks for sharing it with us! GIMP will get to be like GIMP with less noise.

Is there anything that we can do to expedite this?

Maybe, but I think their occupational choices indicate that they are not capable of understanding the bluntly obvious antisocial implications of cultivating a user base of clueless suckers and abusing their lack of technical and practical smarts to the breaking point.

This perspective reveals the abusers in the equation as meta-losers at the game of life. People who adhere to the maxim "Whoever dies with the most toys wins," will discover too late that whoever dies with the most toys loses everything they ever really cared about.
